County Background:
Established on January 31, 1821, Pike County originally encompassed most of the northern part of Illinois. The County is named after Zebulon Pike, an early explorer of the Louisiana purchase. Pike's Peak was named in his honor. He was a General of the War of 1812 and was killed at York, Canada. Pike County is nationally known for its large and abundant whitetail deer population.
