County Background:
Established on March 1, 1839, Lake County is named after the many bodies of water within the county boundaries, including Lake Michigan, which borders the county on the east. It is divided into 18 townships, 21 single-member County Board Districts, and 52 municipalities. The mission of the Lake County Division of Transportation (LCDOT) is to provide a safe, efficient and innovative transportation system to enhance mobility, economic development and quality of life in Lake County. LCDOT operates Lake County PASSAGE, an intelligent transportation system that uses innovative technology to improve traffic flow on Lake County's arterial network.
